BOSSIER CITY, La. — Bossier Parish Community College has launched an Associate of Applied Science in Technical Studies, a program approved this spring by the Louisiana Community and Technical College System Board of Supervisors.
The two-year degree allows students to build on hands-on technical training while earning stackable workforce credentials. The program integrates four of the college’s technical diploma pathways: air conditioning and refrigeration technician, electrician technology, industrial manufacturing technology, and welding. The offerings span BPCC’s Natchitoches and Many campuses.
Students advance through career and technical certificates, certificates of technical studies, technical diplomas, and industry-based credentials before completing the associate degree. The structure is designed to address workforce needs in manufacturing, construction, and industrial maintenance across Northwest Louisiana.
“This program exemplifies BPCC’s mission to prepare students for the jobs of tomorrow,” said Dr. Holly French-Hart, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs and institutional effectiveness. “By integrating academic coursework with real-world, industry-driven training, we are helping our students move from classrooms to careers with confidence, credentials, and a clear path forward.”
Joseph Brownlee, dean of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, said the program aligns BPCC’s offerings with employer needs. “The Associate of Applied Science in Technical Studies not only empowers students to earn more as they learn more, but also strengthens our region’s economy by producing a workforce-ready population equipped with the skills, certifications, and drive to lead Louisiana’s economic future,” he said.
