For nearly four decades, BRF has served as one of North Louisiana’s most powerful engines of innovation and economic growth. Founded in 1986, the organization has transformed Shreveport into a hub for entrepreneurship, technology, and scientific advancement. Its mission — to diversify and strengthen the region’s economy — drives every initiative, from biomedical research to startup acceleration and workforce development.
BRF’s work spans a wide range of high-impact programs that collectively fuel growth across key industries. Shreveport Next focuses on business recruitment, attracting companies to the region, while BRF Defense and Collaboration Link supports the expansion of Louisiana’s defense and aerospace sectors. Through the Digital Media Institute and EdVentures, BRF is preparing the next generation of innovators with technical and STEM education, and the Entrepreneurial Accelerator Program (EAP) helps launch and scale startups with the potential to drive new economic opportunities. Meanwhile, the Center for Molecular Imaging and Therapy continues BRF’s longstanding leadership in healthcare research and innovation, and InterTech Park revitalizes underutilized properties into centers for scientific and commercial advancement.
As an organization, BRF fosters a workplace culture defined by collaboration, creativity, and long-term commitment. Employees describe it as a place where ideas are valued, professional growth is encouraged, and teamwork fuels success.
“BRF isn’t just a workplace — it’s a true community,” said Morgan Patrick, EdD, Director of Philanthropy. “Collaboration is at the heart of everything we do, and you can feel the spirit of innovation in every project. It’s a place where ideas are welcomed, people support one another, and everyone’s committed to making a real impact.”
For longtime employee Tim Weglowski, that sense of community has been a defining feature for more than 30 years. “The work atmosphere has always been friendly and family-oriented,” he said. “I enjoy coming to work every day because of the support from the staff and the openness with which we are greeted. BRF is goal-oriented, and that focus is reflected in its employees.”
Hilary Wooley, Corporate Counsel, said BRF is a place where employees can truly grow. “For over 10 years, BRF has consistently been a place that pushes me to grow professionally while also supporting me personally,” she said. “The flexibility and respect I’ve been given make it clear that this is a company that truly values its people.”
That culture of opportunity extends to the next generation of professionals as well. Visar Rraci, Executive Assistant and Technology Coordinator at the Center for Molecular Imaging and Therapy, began as an intern and has since built a full-time career with the organization. “What makes BRF special is its leaders who believe in innovation not just in science, but in people,” he said. “I’m proud to represent the kind of local talent BRF continues to support and develop.”
Through its initiatives, partnerships, and people, BRF continues to build a stronger, more resilient regional economy — one rooted in innovation, collaboration, and a deep commitment to creating opportunity for North Louisiana.
