BOSSIER AND CADDO PARISHES, La. — The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development reports continued progress on the $361 million Jimmie Davis Bridge (LA 511) replacement project over the Red River between Bossier and Caddo parishes.
Crews are advancing work on the installation of drilled shafts, large cylindrical concrete foundations that will support the columns of the new four-lane bridge. The new structure is designed to improve traffic capacity and safety along the heavily traveled corridor.
Widening and realignment of LA 511—also known as Jimmie Davis Highway and East 70th Street—remain underway, including construction of new on- and off-ramps that will connect the bridge to both riverfront parkways. These activities require alternating lane closures and shifting traffic patterns as the project progresses through multiple construction phases.
Motorists are advised to remain alert, avoid distractions, and watch for crews and equipment while traveling through the work zone.
Clyde Fant Parkway southbound, which has been closed near the bridge in Shreveport for roadway repairs, is expected to reopen the week of Oct. 13, 2025. The closure is part of the broader bridge replacement project, and DOTD will issue an additional notice once the roadway reopens.
The new Jimmie Davis Bridge is expected to open to traffic in mid to late 2027, weather and other factors permitting.
Additional project information, including detour maps and construction layouts, is available on the Jimmie Davis Bridge project webpage.
