Over 40 years ago, six partners in a well-respected Baton Rouge law firm announced they were leaving to begin a new firm. A firm where the partners would be friends first and business partners second. A firm that would be inclusive and where client service reigned supreme. A firm that put people first. The founding principles of Kean Miller are alive today, in our relationships with each other, in our representation of our clients, and in the communities where we live and work. As we reflect on the past 40 years, we are proud of all that we have accomplished. We have grown from twelve attorneys in 1983 to 214 attorneys in 2024. We have expanded from one office in Baton Rouge, to eight offices across Louisiana and Texas. One of which is located in Shreveport in which we celebrated our 10 year anniversary in 2024. As the firm continues to set sights on the future, we still remain true to our core and represent many of our firm’s original clients to this day.
Everyone at Kean Miller steers the ship in the same direction. We are a firm of culture and collaboration. Formed over 40 years ago by nine attorneys who knew there was a better way to practice law, our culture is defined by collegial, collaborative relationships among attorneys and staff, a non-negotiable dedication to client service, and commitment to the communities where we live and work.
In October 2023, Kean Miller achieved Mansfield Certification for the fourth consecutive year following the completion of a twelve-month Mansfield Rule 6.0 certification process. Mansfield Rule certification recognizes law firms that actively work to close gender and diversity gaps in the legal profession. The program measures whether law firms have affirmatively considered at least 30% of women lawyers, lawyers from underrepresented racial/ethnic groups, lawyers with disabilities, and LGBTQ+ lawyers for top leadership roles, senior-level lateral hiring, promotions into the equity partnership, and participation in client development opportunities. The goal of the Mansfield Rule is to increase the representation of diverse lawyers in law firm leadership by broadening the pool of candidates considered for these opportunities.
Kean Miller is also a member of the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD). Founded in 2009, it has grown to an organization of more than 400 members, who serve as either general counsel of major corporations or managing partners of the nation’s leading law firms. LCLD programs are designed to attract, inspire, and nurture the talent in society and within legal organizations, thereby helping a new and more diverse generation of attorneys ascend to positions of leadership. By producing tangible results in the lives of talented individuals, LCLD works to promote inclusiveness in member institutions, circles of influence, and in society, with the ultimate goal of building a more open and diverse legal profession.
Kean Miller continues to seek a more diverse environment by recruiting at all four law schools in Louisiana and regularly participating in state and regional minority law student job fairs, including the Southeastern Minority Job Fair. We continue to emphasize recruiting efforts at the Southern University Law Center in Baton Rouge.
Kean Miller partners with New Directions to offer a supportive Employee Assistance Program (EAP) which offers 8 counseling visits, legal and financial resources, coaching, and work life education, care giving, and health and wellness to the employee and their family members.

Kean Miller attorneys and staff actively engage in community and civic service. Upon joining the firm, partners and associates are asked what organizations they feel personally connected to and encouraged to lend their time and talents to civic and community affairs, often serving as officers, directors, and board members of numerous organizations. In addition, the firm provides financial support to various organizations, events, and efforts to help make Shreveport a better place to live and work. This support comes in the form of sponsorships, volunteer time, promotional assistance, and direct financial aid.
