During its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, July 15, the Bossier City Council unanimously approved a resolution requesting the development of a comprehensive plan to enhance Interstate 20 exit and on-ramps within city limits following the completion of the State of Louisiana’s ongoing rehabilitation project.
“We’re challenging the administration to come up with a comprehensive plan,” said Councilman At-Large and City Council President Chris Smith. “I-20 is a major corridor. Work with DOTD to find out what we can do because, to be fair, DOTD is very restrictive on us of what we can do on their property. So, work with them and come up with a plan. I-20 will be done at the end of this year, and we want to go ahead and have the exit and on-ramps prepared for when that happens.”
The I-20 rehabilitation project, led by the state, has been underway since 2023 and includes extensive improvements to the roadway through the Bossier-Shreveport area. With completion expected by the end of 2025, city officials say now is the time to plan for localized improvements that will complement the state’s investment and enhance traffic flow, safety, and aesthetics along key interchanges.
The resolution does not specify a timeline for the plan’s development but directs the city administration to begin coordination efforts immediately.
