BATON ROUGE, La. – Governor Jeff Landry and Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) Director Bryan Adams have announced a major milestone: LA Wallet is now officially approved for nationwide use. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has certified LA Wallet’s compliance with federal Real ID standards, making it acceptable for use at TSA security checkpoints, federal buildings, and courthouses across the country.
This approval marks a significant step forward in digital identity innovation, making Louisiana one of the few states with a fully TSA-compliant digital ID. The certification is valid for three years, during which time Louisiana residents can continue using LA Wallet in place of a physical ID for air travel and federal access. In 2028, the TSA will re-evaluate LA Wallet to ensure it remains compliant with federal privacy and security standards.
“We are thrilled to see Louisiana utilizing innovative technology to allow for a more flexible and accessible TSA experience,” said Adam Stahl, TSA Deputy Administrator. “Under Secretary Noem’s leadership and work with our state partners, we are enhancing the passenger experience at TSA.”
LA Wallet, launched in 2018, allows Louisiana residents to carry a legal, digital version of their driver’s license or state ID on their smartphones. The app has been steadily expanding its functionality to include digital vaccine records, hunting and fishing licenses, and vehicle registration renewals.
Louisiana remains a trailblazer in the digital ID space, and this federal approval reinforces the state’s commitment to technological innovation and citizen convenience.
