SHREVEPORT, La. — Downtown Shreveport will take center stage on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, as the city commemorates a trio of significant milestones in its history and launches the official 10-year countdown to its Bicentennial in 2035.
Hosted by the Shreveport Downtown Development Authority (DDA), the celebration will begin at 4:00 p.m. at the Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce, 400 Edwards Street. The public is invited to attend this special event of remembrance, recognition, and community pride.
Celebrating 190 Years of History and Looking Ahead
The event will highlight three major milestones in Shreveport’s evolving story:
- 190 Years Since the Signing of the Caddo Treaty — Widely recognized as the founding of Shreveport.
- 40 Years Since the 1985 Sesquicentennial — A landmark eleven-month celebration under then-Mayor John B. Hussey that brought the community together.
- Kickoff of the 10-Year Countdown — Marking the official start to preparations for Shreveport’s Bicentennial in 2035.
The event will be emceed by local historians and content creators Mark and Mike Mangham of Twin Blends, whose passion for Shreveport history has garnered widespread community engagement.

- Grand Honoree Presentation:
The Honorable John B. Hussey, former Shreveport mayor and leader of the 1985 Sesquicentennial celebration, will be honored and will officially launch the countdown to the city’s 200th anniversary. - Recognition of Legacy Contributors:
Businesses, institutions, and individuals who have made lasting contributions to the vitality of Downtown Shreveport will be recognized. - Historical Reflection by Dr. Gary Joiner:
The noted historian will provide a retrospective look at Shreveport’s founding, development, and the path forward.
