SHREVEPORT, LA — Downtown Shreveport is gaining a much-needed boost in parking availability, with new app-based parking now live along Crockett Street. The project, a collaboration between ShrevePark and the City of Shreveport’s Public Works Department, responds to the growing demand from local businesses and visitors in the area.
With the addition of vibrant establishments like The Glass Hat Café, Crockett Street Trading Company, Hand Forged Tattoo, ShreveTowne Barber Shop, Artiszen Tattoo Studio, and the newly opened Apotheworx Pharmacy, Crockett Street has seen a notable uptick in foot traffic—making the need for convenient, accessible parking more critical than ever.
Recognizing this need, ShrevePark Parking Administrator Lorenzo Lee, in coordination with Allen Pierce and Robert Tomasek from the City’s Public Works team, initiated a conversion project to reclaim a previously unused turning lane near the former SporTran terminal. That lane, originally intended to accommodate bus traffic, is no longer necessary and is being transformed into additional on-street parking.
“After an inquiry from long-time downtown business owner Jason Cram, we began exploring the feasibility of converting the turning lane into parking,” said Lee. “Thanks to a strong partnership with Public Works, we’re pleased to offer this expanded parking option to support downtown commerce and activity.”
App-Based Parking with ParkMobile
The newly designated spaces along Crockett Street will be managed via the ParkMobile app, the official parking platform for downtown Shreveport. These spaces will be clearly marked with green-painted curbs and signage. It’s important to note that even though these areas may not have physical meters, payment is still required via the app.
Visitors can download the ParkMobile app to their smartphones and pay for parking quickly and conveniently. The app also allows users to monitor and extend their parking sessions without returning to their vehicle.

An Economic Boost for Downtown
“Converting the turning lane on Crockett Street into additional parking is a win for both businesses and visitors,” said Cedric B. Glover, Executive Director of the Shreveport Downtown Development Authority. “Accessible and affordable parking ensures that downtown remains a vibrant and welcoming destination for shopping, dining, and entertainment.”
Downtown Shreveport already boasts some of the lowest metered parking rates in the country—just $0.50 per hour, compared to rates in cities like New Orleans that range from $2 to $3 per hour, or the national average of $2 to $5.
These affordable rates, combined with the convenience of app-based parking, encourage regular turnover of prime parking spots, keeping them accessible to short-term visitors and customers of downtown businesses.
What’s Next
The new Crockett Street parking spaces are expected to be available soon, with implementation and signage currently underway. Business owners, residents, and visitors are encouraged to download the ParkMobile app now to streamline their experience and make the most of their time downtown.
With more foot traffic, new investment, and revitalization taking shape, this parking expansion is another sign that Downtown Shreveport is on the move.
