NATCHITOCHES, LA – Bossier Parish Community College (BPCC) has announced the launch of a new Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) training program at its Natchitoches campus. This program aims to equip students with the hands-on training and industry knowledge necessary for a successful career in commercial driving.
Combining classroom instruction with practical experience in a fully equipped tractor-trailer, the CDL program meets all Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Entry-Level Driver Training requirements. Students will develop critical skills, including:
- Pre-trip and post-trip inspections
- Vehicle maneuvering and trip planning
- Defensive driving techniques
Upon completion, graduates will be prepared to test for either a CDL Class A (tractor-trailer) or CDL Class B (straight truck) license, opening doors to high-demand careers in the transportation and logistics industries.
Joseph Brownlee, Dean of the Division of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics at BPCC, emphasized the program’s impact on workforce development.
“The launch of BPCC’s new CDL training program at our Natchitoches campus represents a significant step in expanding workforce training opportunities in the region,” said Brownlee. “With the growing demand for skilled commercial drivers, this program will provide students with the training and certifications needed to secure high-paying, in-demand jobs while supporting transportation and logistics industries that are vital to our local and state economy.”
Enrollment for the first cohort is now open, with classes beginning April 14.
