WASHINGTON – The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has announced the launch of its second annual Season of Small Business™ campaign, beginning with Small Business Saturday® on November 30, 2024. Celebrating its 15th anniversary, this year’s theme, Gift Big, Shop Local™, aims to encourage shoppers to support independently owned small businesses throughout the holiday season.
“Small Business Saturday has become America’s call to action to support the backbone of our economy and heart of our communities – our small businesses,” said SBA Administrator Isabel Casillas Guzman.
A Call to Support Local Entrepreneurs
Small Business Saturday, founded by American Express, has grown into a nationwide event highlighting the significant role small businesses play in their communities. Since its inception in 2011, the SBA has proudly supported the initiative, which has helped drive an estimated $201 billion in consumer spending at local retailers and restaurants.
This year, the event marks the kickoff of a broader campaign aimed at boosting small business sales during the bustling holiday season.
Small Business Boom Under the Biden-Harris Administration
The U.S. has seen an unprecedented Small Business Boom, with nearly 20 million new business applications filed since the start of the Biden-Harris Administration. The surge has been led predominantly by women and people of color, further diversifying and strengthening the entrepreneurial landscape.
“America’s incredible entrepreneurs create jobs, drive innovation, and strengthen our communities, shaping the unique character of neighborhoods across America,” Guzman added.
How to Get Involved
Consumers are encouraged to participate in Small Business Saturday and the Season of Small Business by visiting local stores and dining at neighborhood restaurants. Shoppers can also share their experiences on social media using hashtags like #ShopSmall, #SmallBizSaturday, and #GiftBigShopLocal to inspire others to join the movement.
Why It Matters
Small businesses are integral to the U.S. economy, providing jobs and fostering innovation. Events like Small Business Saturday play a crucial role in spotlighting these businesses during the busiest shopping season of the year, driving local economic growth and community development.
