HAUGHTON, La. – A 70-acre mixed-use commercial development, Haughton Place, is set to become a key driver of economic expansion in Haughton, Louisiana. Located at the intersection of LA Highways 3227 and 157, the project is designed to accommodate retail, dining, office spaces, and other commercial ventures to meet the growing demand in the area.
Led by Mark Sealy and a group of local investors, the development offers flexible lot sizes ranging from one to twenty-five acres, providing businesses with high-visibility commercial real estate and convenient access from the I-20 Haughton/Fillmore Exit.
Meeting Commercial Demand in a Growing Market
With ongoing population growth and infrastructure improvements, the demand for retail, grocery, dining, and professional services has increased. Haughton Place aims to fill this gap by offering businesses a prime location to serve residents who currently travel long distances for essential goods and services.
“Haughton Place capitalizes on unmet commercial demands in the region,” said Mark Sealy, President of Sealy Real Estate Services (SRES). “With continued residential growth and infrastructure enhancements, this development will provide needed amenities while supporting the area’s economic expansion.”
Economic and Infrastructure Impact
The project is expected to create jobs and increase the tax base for Haughton. State Representative Dodie Horton highlighted the town’s rapid growth and the importance of state capital outlay funds in supporting development efforts. Former Mayor Kim Gaspard also played a key role in advancing the project over the last several years.
Infrastructure Improvements to Support Growth
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LA DOTD) is upgrading local roadways to improve traffic flow and enhance business access.
- Phase 1, completed in fall 2024, widened sections of Highway 157 and added a center turn lane.
- Phase 2, which will reroute Highway 3227, is expected to go to bid in March 2025, with construction following.
- Proximity to the new I-220 gate at Barksdale Air Force Base will improve connectivity for both businesses and residents.
Aligned with Haughton’s Growth Vision
Haughton Place aligns with Mayor Hunter Timms’ plan to attract new businesses, strengthen the local economy, and enhance the town’s tax base.
As of January 2025, data indicates that Haughton’s housing market remains strong, with home sales stabilizing following significant increases since 2021. This steady residential growth positions Haughton Place as a central hub for commercial activity, improving local amenities and fostering continued economic expansion.
