With the May 7, 2025 deadline fast approaching, the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) is encouraging residents to obtain their REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or identification card. After this date, only REAL ID-compliant credentials will be accepted by federal agencies for official purposes, including boarding commercial flights and entering federal buildings.
A Louisiana REAL ID can be easily identified by the gold circle with a star cutout located in the top right corner of the license or ID card.
How to Get a REAL ID
Residents can upgrade their current license to a REAL ID by visiting an OMV field office or a Public Tag Agent location. Those renewing their driver’s license or ID card are encouraged to opt for a REAL ID-compliant credential during the process.
For individuals not eligible for renewal, a duplicate license or ID upgrade is available. Appointments can be scheduled online through ExpressLane to streamline the process.
TSA and LA Wallet Compatibility
Travelers using LA Wallet, Louisiana’s digital driver’s license and ID app, should note that TSA will only accept mobile credentials that are REAL ID-compliant. This requirement is already in place at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) and several other airports across the country.
