NEW ORLEANS, LA – Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry has announced that the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has approved a Declaration of an Economic Injury Disaster, enabling impacted businesses in Orleans, Jefferson, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, and St. Tammany Parishes to access much-needed financial relief.

The declaration follows the tragic New Year’s Day terrorist attack in New Orleans, which disrupted local businesses in the area. Businesses affected by the incident can now apply for Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL) to help recover and rebuild. The program will remain open for applications through October 3, 2025.
Supporting Local Businesses
“Louisiana, especially New Orleans, thrives off local businesses unique to the area,” said Governor Landry. “This declaration is crucial to ensuring those affected by the horrific New Year’s Day attack get the help they need to return to business. I appreciate the U.S. Small Business Administration for their swift action on this.”
The EIDL program offers low-interest loans to assist businesses in covering operating expenses and financial obligations disrupted by the attack. This initiative aims to stabilize the affected communities and restore economic vitality in one of Louisiana’s most culturally and economically significant regions.
How to Apply
Business owners seeking assistance can apply through the MySBA Loan Portal at lending.sba.gov.
Applicants are encouraged to gather relevant financial documents and submit their applications promptly to ensure timely access to funds. The SBA will also provide resources and guidance to help businesses navigate the loan process.
About Economic Injury Disaster Loans
EIDLs are designed to help businesses overcome revenue losses and maintain their financial stability following major disruptions. These loans can be used for various purposes, including paying fixed debts, payroll, accounts payable, and other operational costs.
For additional information on eligibility requirements or assistance with the application process, businesses can visit the SBA’s disaster assistance website.
A Path to Recovery
Governor Landry emphasized the importance of supporting small businesses in Louisiana’s recovery efforts. As the state continues to respond to the attack, the SBA loans will play a vital role in ensuring the resilience and long-term recovery of the affected parishes.
