SHREVEPORT, La. – Sci-Port Discovery Center will hold a grand opening and ribbon cutting for Film-Port, a new interactive exhibition exploring filmmaking technology and North Louisiana’s role in the movie industry, on Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 3:30 p.m.
Developed with the Shreveport-Bossier Film & Entertainment Commission and Robinson Film Center, the exhibition connects science and technology with the creative work behind movie production. Visit Shreveport-Bossier provided support for the project.
Film-Port will offer hands-on activities demonstrating how filmmakers plan scenes, create visual effects, produce sound and animate stories. The exhibition also highlights developments in cinema and movies made in North Louisiana.
“Film-Port bridges the gap between STEM and creative arts, showing how technology drives story,” said Eric Sanders, assistant director at Sci-Port Discovery Center. “We can’t wait for our guests to experience the magic of movie-making firsthand and discover North Louisiana’s unique connection to film history.”
Visitors can use a storyboarding station to learn how production teams plan visual narratives, experiment with green-screen effects and create stop-motion animation shorts.
A working zoetrope, a device developed before modern cinema, will demonstrate how a sequence of still images creates the illusion of movement. A Foley sound studio will allow visitors to experiment with audio effects used in movie scenes.
The exhibition also includes displays on film history and cinema techniques, along with a red carpet photo opportunity.
“We are thrilled to be working with our partners at the Shreveport-Bossier Film & Entertainment Commission and Robinson Film Center to bring the science behind movie magic to life,” said Dianne Clark.
Sci-Port is located at 820 Clyde Fant Parkway in downtown Shreveport. The 92,000-square-foot science and entertainment center offers interactive science, math and technology exhibits, an IMAX Dome Theater and educational programming.
