For nearly a century, Goodwill Industries of North Louisiana has been creating better futures for individuals and families through job training, employment programs, and community support. Today, with 271 employees across 26 parishes, the organization continues to live out its mission of changing lives through the power of work — supported by a culture rooted in integrity, inclusion, and teamwork.
Goodwill’s leadership credits its strong workplace culture to five guiding values: People, Stewardship, Ethics, Learning, and Innovation. These principles shape daily operations and help cultivate an environment where employees feel empowered to grow, contribute ideas, and lead with purpose.
“Our management team applies these values every day to coach and support staff,” the organization shared. “We embrace open dialogue and teamwork to build a culture of excellence.”
Goodwill’s workforce reflects the diversity of the communities it serves. Sixty-one percent of employees identify as African American, 36 percent as Caucasian, with additional representation from Hispanic and Native American employees. The organization maintains an active Culture Committee — comprised of board members and staff — dedicated to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion across all levels.
Employee benefits are designed to support both professional and personal well-being. Full-time staff receive health, dental, and vision coverage, a 403(b) retirement plan, paid time off, flexible scheduling for eligible roles, and access to an employee assistance program. Additional perks include store discounts, an employee assistance fund supported by peers, and discounts with community partners such as AT&T, Penske, and the YMCA of Northwest Louisiana.
Recognition is a key part of the Goodwill experience. Employees are celebrated through quarterly and annual awards such as Employee of the Year, Achiever of the Year, and the Lawrence A. Shirley Graduate of the Year. Milestones are marked with birthday and anniversary celebrations, and engagement events such as potlucks, holiday parties, and team outings strengthen relationships across departments.
Goodwill also encourages employees to give back to their communities through volunteer service. Staff participate in civic organizations including Rotary, the Chamber of Commerce, and SHRM, as well as in group service events that reinforce the organization’s mission of service and teamwork.
Beyond its internal culture, Goodwill continues to make a measurable impact across North Louisiana. In 2024, the organization served 2,874 people, placing 529 into jobs with an average wage of $13.76 per hour and an average of 36.9 hours per week. Its economic impact included more than $8.7 million generated through job placements and $12 million in retail sales. Since 2005, Goodwill Industries of North Louisiana has helped more than 68,000 individuals gain employment and independence.
From its 22 programs and nine retail stores to its 23 employment contract sites, Goodwill’s reach extends throughout the region — proof that its mission is as vital today as ever. With a culture grounded in purpose and people, Goodwill Industries of North Louisiana continues to change lives, one opportunity at a time.
