Louisiana Municipal General Election Approaches: Secretary of State Issues Reminders

Secretary of State Nancy Landry has issued reminders to voters in anticipation of the upcoming Municipal General Election scheduled for Saturday, April 27.

In preparation for the election, Secretary Landry has urged voters to take note of several key points:

  • Early Voting: Early voting will be available from April 13 to April 20 (excluding Sunday, April 14) from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Early voting locations can be found at voterportal.sos.la.gov/earlyvoting.
  • Absentee Ballot Request Deadline: The deadline to request an absentee ballot is April 23 by 4:30 p.m. (excluding military and overseas voters). Voters can request an absentee ballot online through the Voter Portal or in writing through the Registrar of Voters Office.
  • Voted Absentee Ballot Submission Deadline: The deadline for a registrar of voters to receive a voted absentee ballot is April 26 by 4:30 p.m. (excluding military and overseas voters).
  • Election Day Polling Hours: Polls will open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. on Election Day. Voters who are in line at 8 p.m. will be allowed to vote.
  • Polling Location and Sample Ballot Information: Voters can access their polling location and view a sample ballot by downloading the GeauxVote Mobile app for smartphones or by visiting www.GeauxVote.com and logging into the Voter Portal.
  • Electronic Notifications: Voters have the option to sign up for electronic notifications via GeauxVote Mobile.
  • Identification Requirement: Voters should bring a valid ID with them to vote, which includes a Louisiana driver’s license, Louisiana Special ID card, a generally recognized picture identification card with name and signature such as a passport, or a digital license via LA Wallet.
  • Real-Time Election Results: Election results can be viewed in real-time via GeauxVote Mobile or at www.sos.la.gov.

Secretary Landry emphasized the importance of voter participation and encouraged all eligible voters to exercise their right to vote in the Municipal General Election.
