Love the Boot Week Commences with Over 700 Cleanup and Beautification Events Across Louisiana

by BIZ Magazine

Keep Louisiana Beautiful (KLB) and Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser have inaugurated the second annual Love the Boot Week, announcing a staggering lineup of over 700 cleanup and beautification events scheduled to take place in all 64 parishes from April 20-28, 2024. This initiative, Louisiana’s largest litter removal and beautification endeavor, coincides with Earth Week and invites participation from individuals, businesses, non-profits, schools, and governmental entities statewide.

Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser emphasized the significance of community involvement in combating litter issues, stating, “Love the Boot Week empowers businesses, non-profits, governmental entities, schools, and individual citizens to clean up and beautify their communities. We need everyone in every parish doing their part to stop litter from hurting our Sportsman’s Paradise.”

KLB Executive Director Susan Russell highlighted the multifaceted approach to addressing litter problems, stating, “Removing litter is important, and KLB is proud to support local cleanup efforts by donating supply boxes of volunteer t-shirts, bags, and gloves. However, we know removal is only one piece to solving the litter problem. Litter prevention through education, accountability, and awareness are all critical components.”

With more than 13,000 volunteers estimated to participate in the events across all 64 parishes, this year’s Love the Boot Week marks the largest impact to date. The initiative aims not only for litter removal but also community beautification, tree planting, plant installations, and garden refurbishments.

Recycling plays a vital role in Love the Boot Week, with Coca-Cola funding recycling efforts for over 120 litter cleanup events in 15 parishes. This marks a significant expansion from the previous year’s recycling efforts, reflecting the growing momentum of the initiative.

Data collection forms an integral part of Love the Boot Week, with an impact report set to be released in May to recognize participants’ collective efforts. The data will also inform the selection process for the 2024 Love the Boot Awards recipients, which will be presented on May 29.

KLB, supported by the Office of the Lieutenant Governor, extends its gratitude to sponsors including Coca-Cola, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana, Cox Communications, Energy Transfer, Republic Services, Unum Group, Lamar Advertising, The Advocate/Times-Picayune, and numerous others.

Keep Louisiana Beautiful (KLB), a 501(c)(3) non-profit supported by the state of Louisiana and the Office of the Lieutenant Governor, aims to promote best practices for litter prevention and reduction, beautification, recycling, waste reduction, and sustainability. Through its extensive network of community affiliates and educational programs, KLB endeavors to foster a cleaner, greener Louisiana.
