Renew Shreveport, a group of citizens supporting Shreveport’s 2024 bond issue to go before voters April 27, has issued a community letter of support signed by area businesses, organizations and individuals in favor of the bond package.
The bond package includes three propositions totaling $256.4 million to address critical infrastructure and quality of life improvements throughout the city.
More than $125 million will improve streets and drainage; $82 million will address deferred water and sewer projects in the city; and more than $49 million will go to major repairs and improvements to public safety facilities, parks and public gathering spaces.
“A bond package of this kind has not been passed in Shreveport since 2011, and it is evident that it is time to reinvest in and renew our city,” said Renew Shreveport representative Scott Ward. “To attract young families and businesses and keep our kids here, we must maintain and improve our basic infrastructure and offer the same or better quality of life found in similar cities.”
Renew Shreveport representatives commend the City of Shreveport and the Shreveport City Council for engaging a broad cross-section of citizens and community leaders to be a part of developing a bond package that prioritizes the most critical and impactful projects based on need.
“Over several months, the Citizens Capital Improvements Committee listened and learned, and reviewed hundreds of millions in project needs throughout Shreveport. We are pleased with the due diligence process and with the administration’s willingness to also employ project managers to ensure the chosen projects are completed in a timely and responsible way,” said Ward.
The letter urges all residents to join the undersigned in voting “yes” for the bond initiative on April 27. Early voting is April 13-20.
