Louisiana Business Advocates Condemn Biden Administration’s Freeze on LNG Export Permits

by BIZ Magazine

The Louisiana Association of Business and Industry (LABI) expressed its strong opposition following the Biden Administration’s decision to halt export permits for new liquified natural gas (LNG) projects. LABI President and CEO, Will Green, released a statement condemning the move, emphasizing the adverse impacts it could have on the state’s economy and its standing as a key player in the natural gas production sector.

“LABI will stand against any policy, whether state or federal, that limits the ability for companies to operate in a free market,” declared LABI President and CEO Will Green. “That includes this morning’s announcement by the Biden Administration to halt LNG export permits. This decision not only sends the message to our allies abroad that they cannot rely on the US for sustainable energy produced right here in Louisiana, but, perhaps more importantly, it stifles Louisiana’s competitive advantage and our position as a leader in natural gas production. We urge the administration to reverse this decision and allow job-creators within this industry to do what they do best – support thousands of high-wage jobs across the Gulf South, and service businesses across every state in the nation.”

The statement highlights the potential ramifications of the decision, pointing out the adverse signal it sends to international partners, affecting their confidence in relying on the United States for a stable energy supply.

“This decision not only sends the message to our allies abroad that they cannot rely on the US for sustainable energy produced right here in Louisiana,” noted Will Green, “but, perhaps more importantly, it stifles Louisiana’s competitive advantage and our position as a leader in natural gas production.”

LABI called on the administration to reconsider the move, underlining the significance of supporting job-creators in the LNG industry, which plays a pivotal role in generating high-wage jobs across the Gulf South and servicing businesses throughout the nation.

The decision to freeze LNG export permits is expected to have broader implications on the energy sector, with industry leaders and advocates closely watching for developments and potential policy reversals that could impact Louisiana’s economic landscape.
