BATON ROUGE, La. – Louisiana Highway 509 is set to undergo major upgrades thanks to a joint effort by State Senators Thomas Pressly (District 38) and Alan Seabaugh (District 31), who announced the start of an $11.2 million infrastructure improvement project in DeSoto Parish. The project officially broke ground on May 5, 2025.
The scope of the work includes approximately 10 miles of improvements stretching from north of Mansfield to LA 5 in Kingston. Planned upgrades feature full-depth repairs, new asphalt, roadway striping, and updated signage.
“The people of DeSoto have been waiting for this critical infrastructure to be improved for some time, so the commencement of this project is both timely and well received,” said Sen. Pressly. “This investment in our region not only means safer roadways, it also brings with it good jobs and opportunities for locals.”
Sen. Seabaugh highlighted the importance of sustained collaboration with state agencies to bring projects like this to fruition.
“This project is a result of working closely with state officials and others at the Department of Transportation and Development to make sure our region benefits from long-awaited construction projects aimed at fixing our roads,” Seabaugh said. “Highway improvements like these increase safety, improve driving conditions and minimize wear and tear on vehicles for my constituents.”
The project marks a significant investment in rural infrastructure, promising to enhance transportation reliability and economic development in the region.
