Locals react to Johnson being named Speaker of the House

by BIZ Magazine

Bossier Chamber of Commerce President/CEO Lisa Johnson: “As the hometown chamber of the newly elected speaker, the Bossier Chamber is proud of Speaker Johnson’s part in history, as the first Speaker of the House from the state of Louisiana. Having our very own Congressman be elected as Speaker of the House of the United States House of Representatives is an important day for Bossier, Northwest Louisiana, and our state. We know Speaker Johnson to be a man of great faith, knowledge, and integrity who has always listened to his constituents’ concerns and requests. We take many issues to Washington, D.C. each year on our advocacy trips and he is always working to advance Northwest Louisiana. The Speaker has been a great champion of our largest employer – Barksdale Air Force Base – and has been a great friend to our military community. We are proud to see a resident of Bossier Parish achieve such a high honor. We know this job will bring great demands but we are confident our Congressman is up for the challenge. In addition to the Chamber’s good working relationship with the Speaker and his staff, his children have also participated in our Bossier Youth Leadership program, and daughter, Abby Johnson, has served as an intern at the Bossier Chamber during summer break.

Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce: “The Greater Shreveport Chamber congratulates Congressman Mike Johnson on his election as Speaker of the House,” said Chamber President, Dr. Tim Magner. “We are delighted that Speaker Johnson is the first Louisianan and first Shreveport native to serve our nation in this important position. We are confident that he will bring the same leadership, civility, and dedication to the Constitution to the role of Speaker for the entire nation that he has demonstrated representing us in the 4th District of Louisiana.”

CEO/President of the Greater Minden Chamber Stephanie Barnette: “Not only is this an exciting time for Louisiana, but especially for the people of Northwest Louisiana. Mike Johnson is a true servant of the people and the Greater Minden Chamber is confident that great things are ahead under his leadership.”

Bossier City Mayor Tommy Chandler: “Today is a great day – a great day for our city, for our state, and for our nation. I am so proud of “Mr. Speaker,” Mike Johnson. Every citizen in our state should be proud. We appreciate the leadership that he has provided to our state and he will do a great job in leading and uniting our country. I offer my proud congratulations to Speaker Johnson.”

Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux: “I am proud that our Congressman, Mike Johnson, has been elected Speaker of the House. He is a brilliant man who leads with a servant’s heart. Our area and our country are fortunate for his service as Speaker.”

LSUS Chancellor Dr. Robert T. Smith: “Getting elected Speaker of the House of Representatives is no small feat, and it is certainly exciting that the first Louisiana native to hold this high office is from the Shreveport-Bossier area and an LSU alumnus. Seeing a local leader rise to this level will hopefully encourage our young people to get involved in the political process.”

BPCC Chancellor Dr. Rick Bateman: “For those of us who have known Mike and who have worked with him on important issues in northwest Louisiana, it’s exciting to see the world get to know what a tremendous man and public servant that he is.”
