The Cordish Companies Appoints John J. Chaszar as Head of New Live! Casino & Hotel Louisiana

The Cordish Companies have appointed John J. Chaszar as Executive Vice President and General Manager of the upcoming Live! Casino & Hotel Louisiana. The $270 million project is set to open in early 2025 in Bossier City, introducing the region’s first land-based casino. The development is expected to significantly boost the local economy and create numerous jobs.

Industry Veteran to Lead New Project

Chaszar, who has over 30 years of experience in the gaming and resort industry, will oversee the development, launch, and operations of the new casino and hotel. His previous roles include Senior Vice President and General Manager of Tropicana Casino in Evansville, Indiana, where he managed a similar transition from a riverboat to a land-based facility.

Economic and Employment Boost

Rob Norton, President of Cordish Gaming Group, expressed confidence in Chaszar’s leadership. “As The Cordish Companies continues to expand, we are focused on building a team that can deliver the high standards of quality and excellence synonymous with the Live! brand nationwide,” Norton said. “Under John’s leadership, the new Live! Casino & Hotel Louisiana will become a premier destination offering first-class hospitality and entertainment, exceptional customer service, and generating millions of dollars in economic benefits for the Bossier City community for years to come.”

LSU HEALTH SHREVEPORT (LSUHS) ANNOUNCES NEW CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

Ramey A. Benfield, PhD, MBA, MS will begin his service as LSU Health Shreveport’s Chief Financial Officer on June 1, 2024. As Chief Financial Officer, Benfield will oversee all matters related to finance at LSUHS. In addition, he will serve as a key partner in strategic decision making by providing financial analysis, strategy, and business plans to university leadership. He will direct the functions of general accounting, billing, accounts payable, direct pay, travel, bursar operations, payroll, purchasing, auxiliary services and all financial aspects of research grant management.

Benfield brings in-depth and valued experience having served as the Associate Vice President Business Affairs and Operations and the Assistant Vice President for Administrative Services at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine. He previously served as the Assistant Dean for Finance & Administration at the Texas A&M University Irema Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy for thirteen years. Prior positions in Houston at MD Anderson Cancer Center and the DeBakey Heart Center launched a career in health care and medical education finance, which yielded a proven record in improving financial processes and outcomes through use of business intelligence, managing and mentoring large teams, creation of consistent financial reporting throughout organizations while building a culture of customer service and accountability.

Benfield received a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Master of Science in Clinical Gerontology from Baylor University, followed by a Master of Business Administration in Finance at University of St. Thomas in Houston and most recently his Doctor of Philosophy in Higher Education Administration at the University of Phoenix.
