The Bossier Chamber of Commerce held a news conference on Tuesday, May 17 to announce its new Military Community Champion program.
“Our region has long been a strong supporter of our military community and ensuring that families are taken care of for deployments, relocation, education, healthcare and spousal job placement. One reason we launched this program is to give recognition to our businesses like the ones here today, who show their support for our military by doing things like: giving veteran and military spouses preference when hiring, participation in the department of defense skilled bridge program and creating programs to support our military, veterans and their families,” said Lisa Johnson, President/CEO of the Bossier Chamber of Commerce.
She added that there is no greater way to say, “Thank you” to our military families for keeping the country safe than providing resources for military members to care for their own families.
“As businesses participate in this program, they also contribute to the economic growth of our area by supporting our largest employer in the region, Barksdale Air Force Base, along with all of our military reserve units,” Johnson said.
This program seeks to promote businesses, schools and organizations that have made the commitment to intentionally provide support for our military connected individuals.
It also informs military service members and their dependents which businesses are apt to employ trailing spouses and create opportunities within our community that directly impact military members or veterans.
Willis-Knighton Health System is supporting the program as Strategic Champion sponsor and Barksdale Federal Credit Union is Operational Community Champion sponsor for the program.
