Shreveport, LA – The Louisiana Department of Health’s Office of Public Health (OPH) in Region 7, in partnership with Southern University at Shreveport’s (SUSLA) Division of Allied Health and Nursing, will host a free opioid symposium on Tuesday, September 24. The event, aimed at addressing the opioid epidemic in Louisiana, will take place from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Alphonse Jackson Building Auditorium, 3050 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Shreveport.
The symposium will feature educational presentations covering vital topics such as harm reduction strategies, recovery stories, and the latest trends in opioid urine drug test results. Among the featured presentations are:
- “Primary Care Perspective: Life After Recovery”
- “Harm Reduction Strategies”
- “What Recovery Looks Like”
- “Current Trends in Opioid Urine Drug Test Results”
Open to SUSLA students, faculty, staff, and the general public, this event is designed to provide critical insights and information on preventing accidental opioid overdose and supporting those in recovery. The symposium’s goal is to raise awareness of the ongoing opioid crisis in Louisiana and share strategies for both healthcare professionals and the community to combat the epidemic.
Seating for the symposium is limited, and registration is strongly encouraged, with a deadline of Friday, September 20. Humana Healthy Horizons in Louisiana and Louisiana Healthcare Connections are sponsoring the event, further supporting efforts to combat opioid abuse in the region.
