Bossier City SONIC Named Among Nation’s Best in 2024 DR PEPPER SONIC GAMES

by BIZ Magazine

The SONIC Drive-In located at 2802 Barksdale Boulevard in Bossier City has achieved national recognition by advancing to the Final 12 teams in the 2024 DR PEPPER® SONIC® GAMES. To celebrate the Bossier City team’s outstanding performance, the SONIC Foundation has donated $10,000 to support local public schools, benefiting students and educators across the area.

The donation was used to fund educational projects through DonorsChoose, a nonprofit organization that allows individuals to contribute directly to public school classroom needs. The Bossier City drive-in team’s success has enabled the funding of several projects at local schools, including:

  • Benton High School: Projects by Mr. McCormick, “BHS Hs Band Storage Space for Musicians!” and “Help Our Students Play Better in Tune!” as well as Mrs. Brookshire’s project “Building Successful Social and Emotional Skills.”
  • Benton Middle School: Mrs. Royer’s project “Crushing Our Goals With Sparkling Incentives for Success.”
  • Rusheon Middle School: Projects by Coach R. Smith, “RMS Dance Line Cheer Shoes, Skirts, and a Dash More,” Mrs. Ballard, “Lexia Headphones and Cheer Shoes,” and Ms. Ray, “Rams Read!”

The DR PEPPER® SONIC® GAMES, which have been a cornerstone of SONIC’s training and community outreach for three decades, bring together drive-in teams from across the country to compete in challenges that test efficiency, service, and hospitality. This year’s competition began in January, with teams facing rigorous tests on food safety, guest service, and teamwork.

“The DR PEPPER SONIC GAMES have been a driving force behind our training and community outreach for thirty years,” said Kevin Knutson, Vice President of Training and Operations at SONIC. “Celebrating the success of our top teams, including the outstanding Bossier City team, while giving back to local schools embodies our passion for excellence and community. It’s our way of saying ‘thank you’ to the communities that have cheered us on.”

As part of their reward, the Bossier City team will travel to Las Vegas in September for SONIC’s Annual National Convention, where they will compete live for the title of top drive-in team in front of a panel of judges.

John Orgeron, National Account Executive for Keurig Dr Pepper, Inc., emphasized the importance of quality training in food service, saying, “The Final 12 teams have set the bar high with their exceptional service and teamwork, inspiring teams nationwide.”

The SONIC Foundation’s donation is part of the broader Limeades for Learning initiative, which has donated more than $27 million to public education since 2009, making it one of the largest programs supporting classrooms across the U.S.
