SHREVEPORT, LA – The Shreveport Airport Authority has been awarded $434,000 in federal funding as part of the $24.8 million allocated to Louisiana airports through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA). The funds, announced by U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), are part of a broader effort to enhance airport infrastructure across the state.
The grant for the Shreveport Airport Authority will be used to install 13,650 feet of wildlife fencing and eight gates at Shreveport Regional Airport. This project is aimed at enhancing safety by preventing wildlife from entering the airport grounds, thereby reducing the risk of accidents and ensuring a safer environment for both passengers and airport personnel.
“Airports are the first impression our state makes on businesses, investors, and families looking to come to Louisiana,” said Senator Cassidy. “The infrastructure law provides funding to build Louisiana’s economy for 2050.”
In addition to the Shreveport funding, other Louisiana airports also received significant grants under the IIJA. The Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport was awarded over $13.1 million to extend a taxiway, while the Lakefront Management Authority received nearly $7.8 million to construct a new reservoir and pump station. St. Mary Parish Government and LaSalle Economic Development District also secured grants to rehabilitate runway pavement and markings.
These investments are part of a comprehensive effort to modernize airport facilities statewide, ensuring that Louisiana’s airports meet current standards and are prepared to support economic growth in the coming decades.
