Conn’s HomePlus Announces Closure of All Stores Following Chapter 11 Bankruptcy

by BIZ Magazine

BATON ROUGE, La. – Conn’s HomePlus has announced the closure of all its locations, a week after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and initially planning to close six stores in Louisiana. The decision to shut down all stores includes five additional Louisiana locations that were initially spared, affecting outlets at 8888 Airline Highway in Baton Rouge, Metairie, Harvey, Lafayette, and Lake Charles.

In late July, Conn’s filed for bankruptcy and announced the closure of six Louisiana stores, including 10780 N. Mall Drive in Baton Rouge, as well as locations in Slidell, Alexandria, Houma, Monroe, and Shreveport. The total number of store closures will exceed 170 across the southern United States.

In addition to Conn’s HomePlus locations, the company will also close 35 Badcock Home Furniture & More stores. Conn’s had acquired the owner of Badcock Home Furniture & More in December.

The comprehensive shutdown marks a significant contraction for the retail chain, which has struggled amid challenging economic conditions and competitive pressures in the home goods and furniture market.

The impact of these closures will be felt across numerous communities, particularly in Louisiana, where multiple locations are set to close. The closures underscore the challenges faced by brick-and-mortar retailers in an increasingly digital shopping environment.
