by BIZ Magazine

Northwest Louisiana Technical Community College (NLTCC) is thrilled to announce the launch of its new Plumbing Program, developed in partnership with the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors of Louisiana (PHCCLA). The inaugural class is set to begin on August 12, 2024, at the NLTCC Shreveport campus, offering a promising opportunity for individuals interested in pursuing a career in plumbing.

The Plumbing Program at NLTCC is a comprehensive 48-credit hour technical diploma that integrates classroom theory with hands-on training. This combination ensures that students gain a solid understanding of fundamental plumbing principles while acquiring practical skills through lab sessions and paid apprenticeship opportunities. The curriculum adheres to industry standards, preparing graduates to enter the workforce with confidence.

Upon completion of the technical diploma and 3,500 apprenticeship on-the-job training hours, graduates will be eligible to take the Residential Plumber license test. Additionally, students can continue their education through NLTCC’s Plumbing Year III and IV Workforce Program, which prepares them for the Journeyman license and completes the remaining 3,500 apprenticeship hours required for the test.

The program offers various credentials, including:

  • Construction Laborer, Certificate of Technical Competency, OSHA-10 Certificate
  • Plumber Helper Level I, Certificate of Technical Studies
  • Plumber Helper Level II, Certificate of Technical Studies
  • Plumbing, Technical Diploma

In Louisiana, the demand for skilled plumbers is on the rise, with projections indicating a need for over 114,500 workers by 2028. The average salary for a technician in the state exceeds $54,620, offering a stable career with excellent job security, competitive wages, and opportunities for advancement. NLTCC’s Plumbing Program equips graduates with the necessary skills and credentials to thrive in this rewarding field.
