Ruston, LA – Louisiana Tech University is marking a significant milestone with the release of the 100th episode of its Beyond 1894 podcast. This celebratory episode features an engaging conversation between Ruston Mayor Ronny Walker and Louisiana Tech President Jim Henderson. Mayor Walker was chosen as the special guest due to his strong partnership with the university and his ongoing commitment to fostering growth and collaboration between the City of Ruston and LA Tech.

“Whether we’re celebrating the arrival of the first Buc-ee’s in Louisiana or the expansion of the nation’s premier producer of secure semiconductors and microchips, we know that we can rely on the City of Ruston as a partner,” said President Henderson during the podcast.

The Beyond 1894 podcast, launched in March 2020 by the Office of University Communications, has since hosted over 120 guests, including faculty, staff, students, and alumni. The podcast covers a wide range of topics, from personal stories within the Tech Family to notable achievements and campus events.

A notable episode featured a farewell interview with President Emeritus Les Guice, who retired in December 2023. Guice spent nearly an hour reflecting on his extensive tenure at the university and sharing his optimism for its future. Just three episodes later, Dr. Jim Henderson joined the podcast to discuss his motivations for pursuing the Tech presidency and his vision for the university’s growth.

Both Guice and Henderson are among a distinguished list of guest hosts, which includes ANS Associate Dean Dr. Jamie Newman, Chief Innovation Officer Dr. Davy Norris, and recent graduate Madeline Kalmbach. The podcast has also highlighted the stories of students like Reginald F. Lewis scholars Jayden Johnson, Joseph Johnson, and Da’Voznik Armstrong, as well as the last three SGA presidents, Walker Pearson, Connor Smith, and Elizabeth McKinney. Miss Louisiana Tech pageant winners Chanley Patterson and Jordan Smith, along with alumni such as Tim Brandon of TBA Studio and Marlon Watts and Nicholas Clark of WRLDINVSN, have shared their success stories and the impact of LA Tech on their careers.

Episodes featuring faculty members like Brad Deal, who discussed the architecture design build program, and Mark Murphey, who delved into the science of barbecue, have showcased the diverse and innovative accomplishments of the LA Tech community.

Recurring themes of loyalty, family, passion, and pride are evident across all episodes. Many guests describe their first experience on campus as feeling “like home,” while others highlight how Louisiana Tech has been a pivotal place for career advancement and family life. Students from various backgrounds express confidence in the value of their Louisiana Tech education.

Despite reaching this 100-episode milestone, the Beyond 1894 podcast continues to explore the vastness of the Tech Family, indicating that the impressive guest list is just beginning.
