The highly anticipated 2024 CenterPoint Energy Red River Balloon Rally is set to take off on July 12-13 at the Louisiana Downs Racetrack and Casino, promising a weekend filled with vibrant balloon displays, live music, and family-friendly activities.
This year’s rally will feature the Louisiana Ballooning State Championship, where up to 25 of the nation’s top balloon pilots will compete for the title of Louisiana Ballooning Champion. The event, hosted by the Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission, has become a staple in the local community, drawing balloon enthusiasts and families from across the region.
Event Highlights:
- Live Performances: Attendees can enjoy live music from local bands, with Hidden Tracks and Dirt Road Troubadours performing on Friday, July 12, and Total Choice and The Hollow Decks taking the stage on Saturday, July 13.
- Special Balloon Displays: Both days will showcase special-shaped and mini balloons at various locations around Shreveport-Bossier. Highlights include displays at Geico, Landers Dodge, RRCU, and the Bossier Farmers Market.
- Balloon Glows and Tethered Rides: The rally will feature spectacular balloon glows and offer tethered balloon rides for those looking to experience the thrill of ballooning.
“The Balloon Rally was such a success last year in its first year at Louisiana Downs,” said Sara Nelms, Director of Sports at the Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission. “We’ve been working all year long to prepare for this event, and we can’t wait for everyone to see what’s in store. Bring your family out to this great event, catch a ride in a tethered balloon, and watch colors fly over Shreveport-Bossier!”
Ticket Information:
- General Admission: $5 for ages 6 and up, free for children 5 and under.
- Military Admission: Free with a valid ID, courtesy of Shreveport Regional Airport.
- Tethered Balloon Rides: Available for $25 (cash only). An ATM will be on-site.
- Parking: Free, sponsored by A Brighter Smile Dental Care.

The Louisiana Ballooning State Championship will be visible throughout Caddo and Bossier parishes on July 13-14 from approximately 6:45 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., weather permitting.
