by BIZ Magazine

BATON ROUGE, LA – The University of Louisiana (UL) System Board of Supervisors has announced the commencement of a national search for the next President of Northwestern State University (NSU). This move follows the transition of current NSU President, Dr. Marcus Jones, to his new role as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the UL System.

The Board is committed to an aggressive timeline, aiming to have the new NSU President in place by the beginning of the Fall 2024 semester. The ideal candidate will be a visionary and entrepreneurial leader with a proven record of academic and senior administrative success. The Board seeks an individual who is dedicated to fundraising, economic development, community relations, and student-centered initiatives. Transparency, collaborative management, and shared governance are also key qualities the Board is looking for in the new president.

“We are excited about the future of Northwestern State University and confident that this search will identify a leader who will continue to elevate NSU’s impact on education and the community,” said Rick Gallot, UL System President.

The search process will involve collaboration and input from a wide array of stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community members. This inclusive approach aims to ensure that the selected candidate will align with the values and goals of the NSU community and contribute to its continued growth and success.

Dr. Jones, who has served as NSU President with distinction, will transition to his new role within the UL System, where his extensive experience and commitment to student success will be leveraged to benefit all nine institutions within the system. His leadership during this transition period will help maintain stability and ensure that NSU continues to thrive.

“Dr. Jones’ vision and dedication to innovation have been instrumental at NSU, and we are grateful for his service,” added Gallot. “His new role will allow him to impact the broader UL System positively.”

The UL System’s commitment to enhancing leadership and strategic planning across its institutions reflects its dedication to adapting, innovating, and positively impacting the communities it serves. The revised strategic plan, which Dr. Jones will help guide, will serve as a roadmap for the future, emphasizing student success and institutional excellence.

The Board encourages interested candidates to apply and looks forward to a robust selection process that will secure a leader capable of driving NSU forward.
