LSU Shreveport (LSUS) has played a crucial role in this statewide achievement. Among the highlighted research efforts is the significant reinvestment by the National Institutes of Health in LSU Health Shreveport’s Center for Redox Biology and Cardiovascular Disease. The center received an additional $11 million over five years to advance research on heart and vascular disease, underscoring LSUS’s contributions to combating health disparities and improving biomedical research capabilities.

  • Agriculture: LSU researchers are leading a $10 million effort funded by the National Institute of Food & Agriculture to develop sustainable rice varieties, reducing the environmental impact of rice cultivation.
  • Biomedicine: The LSU-led Louisiana Clinical and Translational Science (LA CaTS) network, which includes LSUS, is working on projects funded by the National Institutes of Health with $20 million over five years to address health disparities and chronic diseases like cancer, obesity, and diabetes.
