American Rose Society Celebrates National Rose Month with Events and Initiatives

Shreveport, LA – June marks National Rose Month, and the American Rose Society (ARS), headquartered in Shreveport, Louisiana, is celebrating with a series of events and initiatives aimed at spreading the joy and appreciation of roses. Founded in 1892, ARS is a national non-profit organization dedicated to the culture, appreciation, and preservation of the rose.

Free Membership Preview and Webinars

As part of the National Rose Month celebrations, ARS is offering a free special membership preview. Participants who sign up will gain access to some of the publications that ARS members enjoy and receive a discount on a one-year membership. Additionally, ARS has scheduled two free webinars:

  • June 8, 11:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. CDT: “Roses for Beginners” with Laura Dickinson. Register here
  • June 27, 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. CDT: “Blooming Brilliance, The Allure of Shrub Roses for Effortless Elegance” with Natalie Carmolli of Spring Meadow Nursery. Register here

Major Milestones and Celebrations

This year, ARS is celebrating two significant milestones:

  1. Completion of the Five-Year Garden Restoration: This $2 million project has transformed the gardens at the American Rose Center, adding more roses, trees, and other flowering plants. Visitors can now enjoy approximately 6,000 rose plants and 5,000 other plants, including ornamental trees.
  2. 50th Anniversary of the American Rose Center: To commemorate this milestone, ARS has planned several events:
  • July 4: “Red, White, and Blooms: Celebrating America in America’s Rose Garden” will be part of the KTBS Freedom Fest, featuring food trucks, bounce houses, live music, and fireworks. Admission is $10 per person or $30 for a family 4-pack.
  • October 24: A 50th Anniversary Celebration from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Couples who were married or engaged at the American Rose Center are invited to return for a nostalgic evening.
  • November 29 – December 23: The 41st Annual Christmas in Roseland, with events every Friday through Sunday from Nov. 29 to Dec. 15, and nightly from Dec. 16 to Dec. 23. Highlights include Santa photos, the Roseland Express, a vendor market weekend, and fireworks every Saturday in December.

International Rose Trials and “Save the Ramblers” Initiative

The ARS has announced the third round of winners in the International Rose Trials, a prestigious competition where rose breeders submit their best roses to be evaluated over two years. Winners can be viewed here.

In addition, ARS is launching the “Save the Ramblers” Initiative to reintroduce rambler roses to American gardens. This effort will leverage ARS’s extensive resources and partnerships with nurseries, heritage rose organizations, and public gardens to preserve and promote these beautiful roses. Ways to Celebrate National Rose Month

ARS encourages everyone to celebrate National Rose Month by:

  1. Planting a rose bush.
  2. Sharing roses with nursing homes, hospitals, and libraries.
  3. Giving roses to show love or friendship.
  4. Visiting botanical or rose gardens for inspiration.
  5. Taking photos of roses and sharing them with friends and on social media with hashtags #roses and #nationalfloralemblem.
