Louisiana State Police Alert Public to Potential Fading of 2026 Motor Vehicle Inspection Stickers

by BIZ Magazine

BATON ROUGE — The Louisiana State Police has issued a public awareness message regarding a defect in the 2026 Motor Vehicle Inspection (MVI) stickers. The defect, which affects stickers issued from January 1, 2024, onward, causes the “26” stickers to fade from their original yellow background to a clear or white hue when exposed to sunlight.

The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) has confirmed the issue and is actively working to replace the affected inventory. However, motorists who have already received the 2026 MVI stickers should note that despite the fading, their stickers will remain valid, and no further action is required on their part.

The OMV is currently taking steps to ensure that future MVI stickers will not be subject to the same fading issue. The replacement process for the current unissued inventory is already underway, and the OMV aims to prevent any further inconvenience to vehicle owners.

Vehicle owners who have questions or concerns about their MVI stickers are encouraged to contact the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles for more information.
