Louisiana Tech University Secures $1.3 Million DoD Grant to Bolster Defense Technology

Louisiana Tech University, renowned for its excellence in engineering and science education, has been awarded a significant $1.3 million grant from the US Department of Defense (DoD) to fortify defense technology. Spearheaded by the College of Engineering and Science (COES) and the Institute for Micromanufacturing (IfM), this two-year grant, facilitated by the Air Force Office of Sponsored Research, is poised to revolutionize the resilience and efficiency of military electronics.

In the current landscape of defense operations, electronic systems face formidable challenges, enduring harsh environments characterized by high temperatures and corrosive elements that often compromise standard components. Recognizing this critical need for enhanced durability, Louisiana Tech’s team of esteemed researchers, led by Dr. Bala “Ramu” Ramachandran, Dr. Arden Moore, and Dr. Collin Wick, is embarking on groundbreaking research to develop robust protective coatings tailored to withstand extreme conditions.

Dr. Ramachandran, project principal investigator and associate vice president of research, emphasized the broader impact of this initiative, stating, “Our efforts here will not only protect vital defense technologies but also forge a path toward groundbreaking enhancement across various sectors.”
