Gasoline Prices in Louisiana Drop 8 Cents Per Gallon, National Average Down 3.2 Cents

Louisiana, USA – Gasoline prices in Louisiana have experienced a notable decline over the past week, dropping by an average of 8.0 cents per gallon, according to data from GasBuddy’s survey of 2,436 stations across the state. As of today, the average price of gasoline in Louisiana stands at $3.11 per gallon. This decrease follows a trend of declining prices both nationally and locally.

Compared to a month ago, gasoline prices in Louisiana are 1.4 cents per gallon lower, offering some relief to motorists. However, prices remain 8.7 cents per gallon higher than they were at this time last year.

Meanwhile, the national average price of diesel has also seen a decline, falling by 4.6 cents per gallon over the last week to reach $3.90 per gallon.

GasBuddy’s price reports reveal a wide range of prices across Louisiana, with the cheapest station offering gasoline at $2.29 per gallon and the most expensive station charging $3.99 per gallon. This difference of $1.70 per gallon underscores the variability in gasoline pricing within the state.

Nationally, the average price of gasoline has decreased by 3.2 cents per gallon in the last week, with today’s average price standing at $3.58 per gallon. Despite this recent decline, the national average remains 6.1 cents per gallon higher than it was a year ago.

Analyzing historical gasoline prices over the past decade, GasBuddy data shows fluctuations in prices over time. Notably, the current average price of gasoline in Louisiana is higher compared to the same period in previous years, although still lower than the peak prices seen in 2022.

In neighboring areas, similar trends in gasoline prices have been observed:

  • Baton Rouge: $3.13/g, down 9.6 cents per gallon from last week
  • Jackson: $3.03/g, down 4.0 cents per gallon from last week
  • New Orleans: $3.16/g, down 6.0 cents per gallon from last week

Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, commented on the recent price changes, noting that while prices have not drastically plummeted, the decline is a positive sign for consumers. He anticipates further price drops leading up to Memorial Day, citing recent economic data as a contributing factor to the cooling off of the economy.
