by BIZ Magazine

SHREVEPORT, Louisiana – In observance of Skin Cancer Awareness Month, CHRISTUS Cancer Center is proud to announce its 33rd annual skin cancer screening event in partnership with Dermatology & Skin Surgery, scheduled for May 14.

The free event will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the CHRISTUS Cancer Center located at Highland Medical Center, 1453 E. Bert Kouns Industrial Loop. Given the limited availability of appointments, individuals are encouraged to preregister by calling (318) 681-6231.

The screening event offers participants the opportunity to undergo a thorough examination by a qualified physician, who can address concerns related to irregular moles, dark spots on the skin, or areas that may pose potential health risks. The screening process is quick, typically lasting just a few minutes, with immediate access to results.

Dr. Scott Boniol, CHRISTUS Oncology Medical Director, emphasized the importance of early detection and prompt intervention in addressing skin cancer concerns. “Skin cancer diagnoses can be daunting, but our team is dedicated to providing comprehensive support, from diagnosis to treatment and long-term follow-up,” Dr. Boniol stated.

Skin cancer remains one of the most prevalent forms of cancer in the United States, according to the American Cancer Society. With an estimated 8,290 deaths projected for melanoma, the deadliest type of skin cancer, in 2024, initiatives like the annual screening event play a crucial role in promoting awareness, prevention, and early detection.

The CHRISTUS Cancer Center’s commitment to providing accessible and proactive healthcare services underscores its mission to safeguard community well-being and combat the impact of skin cancer through education and preventive measures.

For individuals seeking comprehensive skin cancer screening and support, the CHRISTUS Cancer Center’s annual event serves as a valuable resource, offering expert guidance and assistance in managing skin health.

Participants are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to prioritize their health and well-being by attending the upcoming skin cancer screening event.

For more information about the event and additional resources, individuals can visit the CHRISTUS Cancer Center website or contact the provided phone number for preregistration.
