BENTELER Steel/Tube Announces Expansion at Port of Caddo-Bossier

by David Specht

BENTELER Steel/Tube Manufacturing Corporation, a leading global specialist in metal processing, unveiled plans for a significant expansion at the Port of Caddo-Bossier. The company is set to construct a new threading facility for hot rolled seamless steel tubes, with a staggering $21 million investment aimed at enhancing supply chain efficiencies for customers in the oil and gas, energy, and engineering sectors.

The expansion project is anticipated to create 49 direct new jobs, while also retaining 347 existing positions at BENTELER’s Louisiana operations. Louisiana Economic Development estimates an additional 96 indirect new jobs, bringing the total potential new job count in the Northwest Region to 145.

“Economic development projects like this don’t only benefit the state’s economy through investment and job creation, but also by providing support to key industries in our state,” remarked LED Secretary Susan B. Bourgeois, emphasizing the significance of BENTELER’s commitment to Louisiana’s business ecosystem.

BENTELER plans to collaborate with leading connection specialists GB Connections and Hunting to offer customers in the oil and gas industry domestically designed, melted, made, and finished seamless products.

“This expansion reflects our ongoing commitment to the industry and the region,” stated Kai Christian Zimmermann, Executive Vice President North America of BENTELER Steel/Tube. “Together with our partners, we will provide finished casing directly from the mill to drilling locations, ensuring competitive access to markets in the Mid-Continent region and Rockies.”

Construction for the threading facility is scheduled to commence by the end of April, to be executed in two phases. The initial phase will include installing the first threading line focused on threaded and coupled connections, extending the finished goods yard, enhancing rail loading capabilities, and improving infrastructure. The second phase will expand the facility to accommodate a second threading line, expected to be operational by the end of 2026.

Local officials expressed enthusiasm about the expansion’s potential impact on the region. Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux welcomed the news, highlighting the addition of well-paying jobs to the local economy.

Seamless tubes, renowned for their durability in high-pressure and corrosive environments, are commonly utilized in the oil and gas industry, as well as in fluid transportation applications.

The project secured a competitive incentives package from Louisiana, including LED FastStart, comprehensive workforce development solutions. Additionally, BENTELER is poised to participate in the state’s Quality Jobs program.

North Louisiana Economic Partnership President and CEO Justyn Dixon underscored the significance of BENTELER’s continued growth, affirming the company’s pivotal role in fostering a thriving business environment in northwest Louisiana.
