Shreveport-Caddo MPC Unveils “One Shreveport” Initiative to Revise 2030 Master Plan

by BIZ Magazine

The Shreveport-Caddo Metropolitan Planning Commission (MPC) is embarking on a significant endeavor with the launch of the “One Shreveport” initiative, aimed at updating the Great Expectations: Shreveport-Caddo 2030 Master Plan. This initiative marks a pivotal moment for the city as it seeks to unify community voices and aspirations to chart a course for its future development.

Originally adopted in 2010, the 2030 Master Plan has been instrumental in guiding Shreveport’s growth and development over the past decade and a half. With the “One Shreveport” initiative, the MPC seeks to reflect on the city’s evolution, revisit community values, and craft an updated strategy for planning and infrastructure.

The updated plan, a policy document outlining the long-term vision for the city’s development, will address critical aspects such as land use, housing, economic development, transportation, and more. Through a collaborative and community-driven process, the MPC aims to engage residents, workers, and stakeholders to gather their insights and perspectives on Shreveport’s future.

To facilitate this inclusive process, the MPC is inviting interested individuals to apply for roles as Community Steering Committee members and Community Ambassadors. The Community Steering Committee will serve as representatives of Shreveport’s diverse neighborhoods, organizations, businesses, and schools. They will provide valuable input to ensure that the updated plan accurately reflects the community’s aspirations and priorities.

On the other hand, Community Ambassadors will play a crucial role in connecting their communities with the planning process. They will receive training in planning concepts and facilitation skills to effectively engage their peers and ensure that a broad spectrum of voices is heard throughout the process.

Applications for both Community Steering Committee members and Community Ambassadors are now open and can be submitted through the project website at OneShreveport.org. The MPC encourages interested individuals to apply by Friday, April 26, 2024, at 5:00 PM CT.

The “One Shreveport” initiative represents a unique opportunity for residents to shape the future of their city and contribute to its continued success. By coming together and sharing their visions for Shreveport, the community can ensure that the city remains vibrant, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of its residents.
