America’s Rose Garden Commemorates 50th Blooming Season with Grand Opening

by BIZ Magazine

Shreveport, LA – Excitement is in full bloom as the American Rose Center (ARC) prepares to kick off its 50th blooming season on Wednesday, April 3. With new hours and a series of special events lined up, the ARC is poised to welcome visitors to experience the beauty and history of America’s beloved flower.

Located at 8877 Jefferson Paige Road in Shreveport, Louisiana, the American Rose Center invites guests to immerse themselves in a vibrant tapestry of colors and fragrances. Operating hours for the season will be Wednesdays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Admission to the gardens is $5 per person or $10 per family.

The ARC isn’t just celebrating a milestone season; it’s also marking the 50th anniversary of the American Rose Society’s headquarters in Shreveport. To commemorate this significant occasion, the society has planned a series of special events and activities, with details available on their website, www.rose.org, or the ARC Facebook page.

Executive Director Claire Bissell expressed her enthusiasm for the upcoming season, stating, “If you haven’t visited the rose garden in some time, then you are in for a new experience. Our Great Garden Restoration is complete! The five-year, two-million-dollar project has transformed the gardens with circles that tell the story of the history of the rose in America.”

The ARC has undergone a remarkable transformation, with the addition of more roses, trees, and flowering plants, totaling approximately 6,000 rose plants and 5,000 other ornamental plants. Visitors can expect to be surrounded by a breathtaking display of nature’s beauty as they explore the grounds.

One of the most anticipated events of the season will be the viewing of the total solar eclipse on Monday, April 8, around lunchtime. The garden will be open exclusively for eclipse activities, weather permitting.

“We invite you to come out and stroll our garden during open garden hours,” added Bissell. “It’s a great place for a morning walk for you and your friends, including canines. Our renovations will continue this year as we refresh and refurbish garden structures and features.”

The American Rose Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the beauty, culture, and preservation of the rose, welcomes guests to America’s Rose Garden. With its stunning array of roses, sculptures, water features, playground, and picnic area, the garden promises an enchanting experience for visitors of all ages.

For the latest updates and information, including weather-related announcements, visitors are encouraged to visit www.rose.org or follow the ARC on social media.
