Ribbon-cutting ceremonies celebrate the completion of the latest GUMBO project and fiber expansion in Minden

by BIZ Magazine

In a significant stride towards enhancing digital connectivity, ribbon-cutting ceremonies were held in Dixie Inn and Minden on the morning of March 22, heralding a partnership between the state of Louisiana and AT&T* to introduce a cutting-edge fiber network to homes, businesses, and farms across parts of thirteen Louisiana parishes. The ambitious $22 million project, subject to a final contract between the state and AT&T, underscores AT&T’s extensive experience in fiber-optic deployment across the state.

The ribbon-cutting event in Dixie Inn commemorated the successful conclusion of AT&T’s latest GUMBO project. GUMBO, which stands for Granting Unserved Municipalities Broadband Opportunities, is a pivotal initiative aimed at aiding internet service providers in extending broadband coverage to underserved regions within Louisiana. Meanwhile, another ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at City Hall in Minden, highlighting the expansion of AT&T’s fiber network in the Minden area. Notably, this expansion represents AT&T’s independent investment and does not rely on GUMBO grant funding.

The collaboration between Louisiana and AT&T signifies a collective effort to bridge the digital divide and foster economic development by providing high-speed internet access to previously underserved communities. By leveraging AT&T’s expertise in fiber-optic infrastructure and the state’s commitment to broadband expansion, the initiative aims to unlock new opportunities for businesses, residents, and agricultural enterprises in the region.
