On March 20, 2024, the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation presented a $250,000 grant award to David Raines Community Health Centers in a ceremony held at the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana Shreveport office.
The grant award supports the implementation of the Wellness on Wheels program, which aims to enhance access to primary care services for children and families residing in rural areas of Northwest Louisiana. The initiative will utilize mobile health units to bring essential healthcare services closer to underserved communities.
Proposed by a coalition of Blue Cross Foundation Angel Award honorees, the Wellness on Wheels project garnered support from various stakeholders committed to improving healthcare accessibility in the region.
During the ceremony, representatives from David Raines Community Health Centers, the Blue Cross Foundation, and other community partner organizations elaborated on the project’s objectives and rollout plans. Additionally, attendees had the opportunity to tour a mobile health unit deployed for the program.
