Op-Ed: Democrats open borders paying dividends

by BIZ Magazine

“A way to look at a country is to look at how many want in and how many want out.” – Tony Blair

Many Americans can trace their ancestral roots to the “great wave” of immigration that occurred during the late 1800s and early 1900s. This is not surprising, as the foreign-born population grew rapidly during this period, doubling in size from 6.7 million in 1880 to 14.2 million in 1930. Between 1880 and 1930, the foreign-born population represented between 12% and 15% of the population.

When the world’s displaced people arrived at the shores of America, they were eager to assimilate culturally and socially and learn American traditions. The majority of all these immigrants applied for visas and green cards immediately, since this is the first steps in becoming a new U.S. citizen.

These immigrants joined communities with other migrants from their countries to learn English, the history of America and its customs. It is not uncommon to find Irish, German, Polish, Asian, Italian and thriving ethnic sectors in larger northern urban cities today.

“Every immigrant who comes here should be required within five years to learn English or leave the country.” – Theodore Roosevelt

Coming from countries controlled by rogue regimes, one of the most salient privileges they looked forward to was voting. Registering to vote was the first act of citizenship after they were legalized. They held parties and celebrated since this badge of courage bonded them to America for life.

America has always welcomed immigrants from friendly countries as well as those seeking refuge from tyrannical rule. Since 1800, Congress has bent over backwards to accept as many migrants as we can support, as long as they would become citizens and contribute to the growth of America.

America courted migrants from the 18th century to fill labor shortages. But after World War II, the need for under-skilled labor almost ceased. In 1965, Congress passed The Immigration and Nationality Act that replaced quotas with new guidelines for amnesty and migrants according to families here. The act extended amnesty to illegal aliens already here; a total of 44,106 illegal immigrants.

Since 1965, our immigration laws have been enforced by Congress and the president. Immigration is now a political football Democrats are using to increase their numbers in Congress and re-stock their voting ranks. This has been a disaster for U.S. citizens, border cities and state governments.

The number of migrants that poured across the border last year hit a record high. Illegal crossings soared 21% over the previous year. Unlike those who came before them, those entering the U.S. today are coming under the guise of the 1965 Immigration Act claiming they have family here or desire political asylum. Most want a handout, not a hand-up, and don’t desire citizenship.

“Amnesty is a way to manage those offenders whom it would be too expensive to punish.” – Ambrose Bierce

The age-old question that surfaces before each election is if illegal aliens cannot vote, why are people concerned that the Democrats have opened the borders for them to come to America? The devil is in the details. The reason Democrats opened our borders for millions of illegal aliens is to register them to vote for Democrats. People are too busy blaming Washington for their problems instead of local government. Illegal aliens can’t vote in federal or state elections, but they can vote for many local offices in dozens of municipalities. Since states control elections, Democrats in state governments are legalizing these illegal aliens to vote in federal elections through the state’s back doors.

Democrat community organizers seek out illegal aliens in an attempt to obtain legal status for them with a myriad of refugee programs. Once legalized, the left offers many inducements to vote Democrat, such as welfare, health care benefits, and Section 8 housing. Most of these illegal aliens cannot speak English and have no knowledge of our culture, or government and are easy prey for Democrats.

According to recent Democratic election data, 70% to 80% of Central American immigrants vote Democrat. This flood of illegal aliens could assure Democrats control of Congress and the presidency for centuries. This is why Democrats are seeking to control Immigration & Customs Enforcement. They want to make it easy for illegal aliens who sneak across the border to remain here and vote.

Tip O’Neil said, “All politics is local.” It is a bad omen local election turnout is less than 10% across the nation unless there is a primary or presidential election. Yet many of the people who have the greatest influence on our lives are elected during these primaries by those who don’t show up! The left is fully aware of this and is convinced the ignorance of the average American voter will prevail.

Its been said many times local elections are the farm system for the major leagues. Most politicians that move through the state and into national politics start there. This is where the rubber meets the road. What has happened in California is living proof that “what happens there does not stay there.”

The impact of illegal aliens in California has helped the Democrats implement their anti-business policies over moderate Democrats who don’t support the radical views of progressives. If Congress offers amnesty to the estimated 11 million U.S. illegal aliens, Democrats will gain an electoral bonanza.

For years, the GOP has fooled themselves about the Hispanic vote. They argue illegal aliens are conservatives, since they oppose abortion and believe in strong nuclear families. Yet a recent Pew Research Survey of all illegal Latino immigrants found 31% identified as Democrats and only 4% Republicans. Among all Hispanic immigrants, 54% identify as Democrats and 11% with the GOP.

The effects of ignoring this felonious voter fraud are stark. Virginia was once a solid GOP state. When the illegal alien invasion flooded the state after 2004, it became a solid Democratic state. The margin of the Hillary Clintom victory over Donald Trump there was almost entirely her margin in Fairfax County, where illegal aliens live in the states sanctuary city, protected by a total Democrat government.

Stephen King told us, “The trust of the innocent is the liar’s most useful tool.” Progressives have twisted their message on illegal immigration so many ways it makes a pretzel look straight. It is not compassion, a labor shortage, or even amnesty that drives them to support illegal immigration. It is nothing more than leftist back door politics and policies to re-stock the voting ranks of their party.

By 2008, Democrats knew the U.S.’s growing Latino population gave them an electoral edge. They convinced voters skeptical of immigration they would win by mobilizing their Hispanic base. If that pattern continues, the GOP is doomed wandering in a political desert for years.
