Winter Weather Forces Road Closures Across Caddo Parish

Shreveport, LA – January 16, 2024 — As winter weather grips the region, the Parish of Caddo has announced multiple road closures to ensure public safety. The closures, effective immediately, are a response to hazardous driving conditions and the need to address challenges posed by icy roads.

Here are the latest closures as of January 16:

1. US Highway 79:

  • Southbound Closure: US Highway 79 southbound at US 80 in Greenwood.
  • Northbound Closure: US Highway 79 northbound at Buncombe Road.

Officials have deemed the road impassable from the Relay Station to Locust Hill Road, where several 18-wheelers are stuck in the travel lanes.

2. North Lakeshore Drive:

  • Closure: North Lakeshore Drive is closed from Tacoma Boulevard to Hilry Huckaby Avenue.
  • Update: Previously closed; NOW OPEN.

3. I-49 North:

  • Closure: I-49 North between the I-220 interchange in Shreveport and Mira Myrtis Road in north Caddo Parish.
  • Alternate Route: US 71.
  • Details: Both southbound and northbound traffic affected. Southbound traffic forced off at the I-49/Mira Myrtis Road interchange, approximately 5.5 miles south of the Arkansas state line. Northbound traffic can access I-49 at both the Myra Myrtis Rd. & LA 168 interchanges.

4. I-49 Urban Section:

  • Closure: Urban I-49 in Shreveport, Caddo Parish, closed between LA 526 and I-20 / I-20 to LA 3132.
  • Details: Closure includes northbound lanes between LA 526 and I-20, and southbound lanes from I-20 to LA 3132. Access remains open from LA 3132 eastbound to I-49 southbound. The connector ramp from LA 3132 westbound to I-49 southbound is closed.

Authorities advise motorists to stay updated on road conditions and follow alternative routes where available. The Parish of Caddo will continue to provide updates as the situation evolves.
