3 p.m. Update: Local Closures Due to Severe Winter Weather

As of 3 p.m. today, several local establishments and institutions have announced closures for Wednesday, January 17, 2023, in response to the ongoing severe winter weather conditions in northwest Louisiana.

Bossier Parish Courthouse

The Bossier Parish Courthouse will remain closed on Wednesday, January 17. Parish administrators are closely monitoring weather conditions to assess when it will be safe to reopen the courthouse.

Bossier Parish Schools

All Bossier Parish Schools and centers will remain closed on Wednesday, January 17, due to the continued threat of dangerous road conditions during the morning hours. This closure includes all extracurricular activities. Based on predictions from the National Weather Service that temperatures will rise above freezing and melting will occur on Wednesday, Bossier Schools plan to resume normal operations on Thursday, January 18.

Mid-term graduations for Haughton and Parkway High Schools, originally scheduled for Wednesday, have been rescheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday, January 18, in their respective school gyms.

The Meet and Greet reception for Superintendent-Elect Jason Rowland and the 2024 officers of the Bossier Parish School Board will proceed as scheduled at 5 p.m. on Thursday, January 18, at Bossier Instructional Center, 2719 Airline Drive in Bossier City. The regular session of the Bossier Parish School Board will follow at 6 p.m., during which the Oath of Office will be administered to Superintendent Rowland and interim District 5 BPSB representative Logan McConathy.

Barksdale Air Force Base

Barksdale Air Force Base facilities will continue to be temporarily closed due to severe winter weather. The closure will extend through 11:59 p.m. on January 17, 2024. Here are some operational details:

  1. Storm Essential and Mission Essential Personnel Only: Use normal command channels to determine reporting criteria and time.
  2. Civilian Admin Leave: Authorized.
  3. Gate Operations: North and East (Industrial Gates) are Closed. Normal Hours for West and Bodcau Gates.
  4. Medical Treatment Facility & Clinic: Closed. Emergency Services dial 911.
  5. DFAC: Open for normal dining hours.
  6. CDC and Youth Center: Closed.
  7. Base Services: Most base services will be closed – call to ascertain status before attempting to access base services.

Caddo Parish

All Parish of Caddo administrative offices and departments will be closed Wednesday, January 17.

The following Parish services will be impacted:

  1. All Parish Government Plaza offices will be closed
  2. Caddo Parish Courthouse parish offices will be closed
  3. Caddo Parish District Court will be closed
  4. Caddo Parish Juvenile Court will be closed
  5. All Parish parks sites remain open; extreme caution advised
  6. Caddo Parish Animal Shelter will be closed; animal control officers will be on call to respond to emergencies (bites, wildlife); citizens may call (318)-226-6624.
  7. Parish trash compactor sites will have a delayed open time of noon.

The Parish’s emergency personnel will continue to monitor weather situations to ensure safety on parish roadways. Crews continue to assess Parish roadways and perform sanding and de-icing to any affected bridges and close Parish roads as needed, and continue to work with DOTD to keep main travel arteries open.
