SHREVEPORT, LA – The Dream Keepers Alliance is set to host the MLK Celebration Weekend of Events, a regional tribute honoring the enduring legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Sponsored by the City of Shreveport, Caddo Parish, Caddo Parish Schools, Caddo Parish DA’s Office, Visit Shreveport Bossier, the MLK CDC, the Krewe of Harambee, and the Krewe of Sobek, the celebration promises a weekend of cultural richness, unity, and community engagement.
The weekend kicks off with the Krewe of Sobek Grand Bal XXI – “Sobek Rides the Orient Express” on Friday, Jan. 12, 2024, at the Shreveport Convention Center. Doors open at 6 p.m., with the tableau starting at 8 p.m. The festivities continue on Saturday, Jan. 13, with the Krewe of Sobek Parade at 1 p.m. at the Louisiana State Fairgrounds.
A highlight of the weekend is the MLK Dream Keepers Cookoff on Saturday, Jan. 13, at the Louisiana State Fairgrounds. The setup begins at 8 a.m., followed by judging at 12 p.m. Later that day, the Mr. & Miss MLK Dream Day Pageant takes place at Booker T. Washington High School from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
On Sunday, Jan. 14, the MLK Dream Day Arts Festival unfolds at Booker T. Washington High School from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Following this, the MLK Dream Keepers Bands Showcase takes the stage at the Municipal Auditorium from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The celebration concludes on Monday, Jan. 15, with the Krewe of Harambee Hopes & Dreams Breakfast at 8 a.m. at the Petroleum Club of Shreveport. The weekend culminates in the Krewe of Harambee MLK Day Parade at 1 p.m. in Downtown Shreveport.
