Senator John Kennedy Urges President Biden to Tackle Inflation Through Fiscal Restraint in New Year

by BIZ Magazine

In an op-ed featured in The Ouachita Citizen, Senator John Kennedy (R-La.), a prominent fiscal conservative, is calling on President Joe Biden to make a New Year’s resolution that prioritizes reining in federal spending as a key strategy to address the persistent issue of inflation in the United States.

Kennedy argues that Washington’s excessive spending has played a significant role in fueling inflation, causing prices to surge while real wage growth lags behind. He contends that President Biden’s administration has been selectively using positive economic indicators, such as GDP growth and job numbers, to downplay the economic challenges faced by everyday Americans.

“If recent polling is any indication, the American people are hoping President Biden’s New Year’s resolution will be to stop promoting bad policies that drive up prices and lower their quality of life,” Kennedy writes in his op-ed.

He criticizes the Biden administration for relying on cherry-picked statistics to create a positive narrative about the economy, despite the fact that many Americans are experiencing the pinch of rising prices. Kennedy asserts that while inflation may have slowed, it remains a persistent problem, and the root cause is the unrestrained spending in Washington.

“Families deserve the full truth about the economy, and here it is: Most of these high prices are here to stay. The rate of inflation has slowed down—and that’s good news—but all that means is that prices aren’t rising quite as quickly as they did last year,” Kennedy explains.

To address this issue, Kennedy proposes a straightforward New Year’s resolution for the Biden administration: “Work with fiscal conservatives in Congress to cut spending. That’s the only way working Americans will get consistent relief from the pain of rising prices.”

Kennedy emphasizes the need for a collaborative effort between the president and fiscal conservatives in Congress to curb federal spending. He contends that this strategy is essential for providing working Americans with sustained relief from the economic challenges they currently face.

As the new year approaches, Senator Kennedy’s call for fiscal responsibility adds to the ongoing national debate about the best path forward for addressing inflation and ensuring economic stability for all Americans.
