Providence House Fall 2023 Graduation scheduled for Sept. 21

by BIZ Magazine

Eight Providence House families will be celebrated at a formal graduation ceremony on Thursday, September 21, 2023, at 6:00 pm.

These families have worked through the challenges and trauma of homelessness and into a life of independence. Including this class, 656 families – made up of 701 adults and 1387 children – have graduated from Providence House since its inception in 1988.

“This ceremony is the hallmark of the program at Providence House and is the perfect opportunity for the community to see first-hand the return on their investment,” shares Verni Howard, Executive Director. “We are excited to watch these families grow beyond the walls of Providence House and thrive in the local community.”

For 35 years, homeless families with children have begun their journey home at Providence House. While in the program, the core barriers that led to homelessness are addressed. Education, workforce development, financial literacy, and parenting classes help move families toward their highest levels of self-sufficiency.

Here, families are allowed the chance to start again, to find hope, and to gain the independence they never had or once lost. Upon graduating, parents (single men, single women, married couples) leave with dignity, confidence, and the ability to provide for their children while flourishing as equal members of our community.

Lakeisha Florence, Administrator, states, “Having worked hand-in-hand and heart-to-heart with our graduates, I stand in awe of the sheer determination these parents and children have shown. They have faced challenges that would terrify the strongest of us. They are resilient and fearless and make our community stronger.”
