by BIZ Magazine

On Thursday, March 9, the seventh annual Virginia K. Shehee Most Influential Woman and the second annual Most Influential Young Woman Awards luncheon was held at the East Ridge Country Club, sponsored by Red River Bank and The Shreveport Times.

These awards recognize women in the community who follow in Virginia K. Shehee’s footsteps in making Shreveport a better place through business leadership, civic engagement and a philanthropic heart.

This year’s winners were Sandy M. Cimino in the Woman category

Cimino volunteers with several local groups including the Military Affairs Council, the Shreveport Crime Stoppers Board, StepForward, the AMIkids Boards and more. She is the first woman to serve as the Independence Chair and the second in the nation, is an Athena Award recipient and was named Bossier Chamber Businessperson of the Year.

Cimino said the night she received her Athena Award on the same stage Virginia K. Shehee received the Outstanding Business Award was when she realized she wanted to follow in Shehee’s footsteps.

“Community service is an opportunity to make a difference in our community and individual’s lives,” said Cimino. “You can give back whether it’s money, time or volunteering. For me, it brings joy to my life and love. Having the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life.”
