Shreveport Chamber to host What’s Happening Breakfast with update from Mayor Arceneaux

by BIZ Magazine

The Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce’s April What’s Happening Breakfast, sponsored by Southern Components, Inc. will feature Mayor Arceneaux and Transition Team Chairs as they report back on their committees’ progress to date.

In December 2022, Shreveport Mayor-elect Tom Arceneaux announced the appointment of six transition teams to provide community input into the prioritization of topics for his administration.  Former city attorney William C. Bradford, Jr. and former Chief Administrative Officer Tom Dark were selected to co-chair the transition team efforts.

The six transition teams were comprised of community volunteers assigned based on their respective skill sets and community involvement.  The Transition Teams are:

  • Administrative – responsible for advising the Mayor on transitional responsibilities related to administrative operations.
  • Public Safety – assist the Mayor in developing citizen-led strategies to reduce crime through discussion sessions with the public.
  • Blight Abatement – assist the Mayor in identifying existing blight abatement laws, successful blight strategies practiced in like-sized cities, and key areas of concern in the community.
  • Business and Economic Development – assist the Mayor by developing a report that outlines key impediments to new and expanding businesses within the City of Shreveport.  This committee will also identify ways for the City of Shreveport to encourage Minority, Woman, and Veteran owned business participation in city contracting.
  • Community Building – coordinate community outreach efforts with the Mayor, as well as work to develop suggested youth, arts, sports, music, and outreach programming that support the efforts of the City of Shreveport.
  • Finance – responsible for reviewing the City budget and advising the Mayor of all accounting, actuarial, and practical matters related to the Certified Audited Financial Report.

During this breakfast the Mayor and Transition Committee Chairs will provide an update on the committee process and share their findings.  This event is hosted by the Greater Shreveport Chamber but is just one of several public forums that will be held by the city to share the findings from this effort.
